Cato Ridge Area Profile
Cato Ridge is situated 35 minutes from Durban and 20 minutes from Pietermaritzburg. Camperdown, which is the neighboring suburb, is being punted as the “Midrand” between the two cities.
Camperdown and Cato Ridge are essentially both farming communities. They were set up in the early 1800’s after the Anglo Boer War. The area then was said to be a good chicken breeding area and is now home to Rainbow Chickens. Although farming is still the mainstay of the region, other industries have moved into the area. The general neighborhood comprises agricultural lands, with intermittent commercial development supporting local farm labourers and the agricultural industry. It is essentially a rural location, with small pockets of industrial developments. All modern amenities are positioned in Pietermaritzburg, or alternatively Hillcrest, both of which are 20 minutes’ drive away. The Dunbar Shopping Centre, which comprises a Spar, is positioned adjacent to the N3 Freeway north of the subject property, while the Cato Ridge Railway Station is set adjacent to the N3 Freeway. The area is fully serviced with tarred roads, sewerage, rubbish removal and Telkom Networks.
